Abstract

An ultrathin planar metasurface with phase gradient for beam manipulation is proposed in this paper. Anomalous reflection phenomena are observed due to the phase gradient of the sub-wavelength resonant units. A deflection angle of 39.9° for the reflected beam at the operation frequency of 13 GHz is achieved, which is in good agreement with calculated value got from generalized Snell's Law of reflection. Simulation results show the specular reflectivity could be lower than -15 dB in a frequency range of 12 GHz-13.3 GHz. On this basis, a 2-dimensional meta-surface is designed, which has a pitch angle of 65°, azimuth angle of -45°, and a -10 dB reflectivity in 12 GHz-13.5 GHz.
