Abstract

A modified pieccwise cavity expansion theory model for the tandem warhead system penetrating concrete target with finite pre-drilled cavity is developed in present paper. The details of the penetration process are described as different phases with the analytical descriptions. The damage factor of the concrete target with the finite pre-drilled cavity is introduced to obtain the more accurate estimation of the penetration performance of the tandem warhead system to the imperfect concrete target. The influence of the finite pre-drilled cavity e.g. damage factor, cavity diameter and cavity depth on the penetration performance are investigated with the velocity, overload and penetration depth calculated through the modified piecewise model. Comparison among the modified model, the model for infinite pre-drilled cavity and the experimental data is shown and the modified analysis can be used for optimizing the design of tandem warhead system.
