Abstract

The photoelectric conversion and second harmonic generation properties of the complex bis{N[(E)-N-octadecyl-4-N[2-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)ethenyl] pyridinium}bis(2-thione-1,3-dithiol-4,5-dimercapt)M,N[D2M(dmit) 2 where M=Cd, Ni] have been investigated. The photoelectric conversion quantum yield of the complex of D2Cd(dmit)2 was evaluated to be 1.1% which is five-fold larger than that of bis{N[(E)-N-octadecyl-4-N[2-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)ethenyl] pyridinium} iodide (DI) itself, while the second order nonlinear optical susceptibility χzzz2 was measured as 149.8 pm V-1 which is about the same as DI.
