Abstract

The reliability and efficiency of routing algorithm are always two conflicting sides in ad hoc network. Nodes in ad hoc network have to consume lots of operating ability and bandwidth to keep the route reliable and therefore have less ability to deal with other operations. As a result, the efficiency of the whole network is impaired. The modified AODV (Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector) Routing protocol utilizes the "intervals" between communications to share routing information among adjacencies when there is no communication or when the routes are already known. Nodes become active locally to exchange routing information without consuming much communication bandwidth. The experimental results show that the modified AODV protocol can promote the communication efficiency and decrease the frequency of searching new routes when the change of the relative positions among nodes in ad hoc is slow.
