Abstract

To investigate the effect of metal particles on the blast wave of composite charges, static explosion experiments were conducted on pure TNT and TNT-based composite charges which consists of an inner cylindrical TNT and an outer ring charge made of an inert metal ring. The intensity and power of the blast wave were analyzed to determine the effect of the metal particles on the blast wave. It was found that the addition of inert metal particles decreased the overpressure of the blast wave, but metal particles reduced the attenuation rate of the blast wave. Which was concluded that the kinetic energy of metal particles physically contributes to the blast wave energy in the composite charge containing metal particles. This finding provides a new idea for the design of blast energy of the composite charge and the regulation of the kill range of warheads.
