Abstract
An analytic expression for dynamic tensile load-carrying capacity of brittle materials under quadric boundary loading was derived together with a finite structural-temporal criterion. The analysis demonstrates that the dynamic tensile load-carrying capacity of brittle materials can be determined by interaction between the exterior loading conditions and the quasistatic parameters, and the strain rate effect on the dynamic tensile strength of brittle materials is not the intrinsic property of materials. In addition, the difference of dynamic load-carrying capacity is due to the different exterior loading, which is the reason that leads to the intrinsic scatter nature of previous dynamic experimental data.
