Abstract

Experiments were conducted to investigate the temperature field of cylinder head in BFM1015 diesel engine under high power-density. Variation of temperature field of cylinder head with variation of loading and thermal problems caused by intensified were summarized. Numerical analysis of water flow in the water jacket of cylinder head shows that the cooling effectiveness is weak in the key areas near the fireboard and the flow field is far from symmetry, and this becomes more significantly with increasing water flow rate. By modifying local structure and flow, an amended model of water jacket was built to improve the flow velocity in the key areas near the fireboard and the symmetry of the flow field. CFD results show that the modification effectively resolves the flow problems, and keeps good behavior with increasing the flow rate. The temperature field of the amended cylinder head was computed and compared with that of the original cylinder head. Results show that the cooling of cylinder head is effectively improved and the effectiveness becomes large with increasing engine load.
