Abstract

Bulk metallic glass of Mg65Cu20Ag5Gd10 with the maximal diameter of 12 mm was synthesized successfully by copper mould casting. Its structure, thermal stability, mechanical properties and fracture surfaces were studied. Results indicate that Mg65Cu20Ag5Gd10 exhibits high thermal stability and glass forming capability. The compressive fracture strength and elastic strain limit of the metallic glass reach about 895 MPa and 2.35%, respectively.
