Study on formation mechanism of variable intake swirl in diesel engine with two-intake ports

Abstract

On the rig of steady flow, the adjustment characteristic of intake swirl of two kinds of double-intake-port of diesel engine, which composed of tangential port and helical port, was tested the experimental results indicated that the characteristics of variable intake swirl of the two kinds of double-intake-port were very different. By using three-dimensional CFD software, the intake flows of the two kinds of double-intake-port were simulated to study their adjustment characteristic of intake swirl. The results indicate that the calculated swirl ratio and flow coefficient are in agreement with the experimental results. Through analyzing and comparing the variation and difference of flow field of the two kinds of double-intake-port before and after intake swirl adjustment, the formation mechanism of variable intake swirl of double-intake-port diesel engine was explored.
