Abstract

To improve the performance, in particular the thermal adaptability of power batteries for electric vehicles, the design procedure of battery thermal management system is proposed based on the battery performance model. Experiments are conducted to analyze the temperature rise and low temperature performances of lithium-ion battery and the adaptability of battery performance model. By utilizing the theories of thermoelectric coupling and heat transfer in battery, the modeling method for battery thermal analysis is proposed and applied to the design of battery thermal management system with PTC heating and forced air cooling. Simulations are performed and the battery temperature characteristics in heat generation, heat dissipation and heating and their influence law are obtained. Finally, the validity of the modeling method and the effectiveness of the thermal management system are verified by experiments.
