Abstract
Rotor flapping dynamics affects the stability of combat helicopters. A linear flapping dynamics model was developed to analyze the stability augmentation system for helicopters. The quasi-static stability analysis showed that a high-gain longitude stability augmentation system had an unstable response. Among the different control law parameters affecting the stability augmentation system for helicopter dynamics stability the gain had the most important effect. The results also showed that the flapping dynamic should be included in the system design. An approximate analysis of the longitudinal stability augmentation system was given to analyze the effect of the flapping dynamics.
