Abstract

In this paper, the stability for SSR of DFIG-based wind farm connected with the series compensated line is analyzed. STATCOM installed at the PCC can realize SSR mitigation. STATCOM detects the sub-synchronous frequency component voltage across the series compensated capacitor and injects the sub-synchronous frequency component current into the system to suppress SSR. In fact, the capacity of STATCOM is limited, so the injected sub-synchronous frequency component current occurs saturation. This paper provides an equivalent simplified circuit model (second-order RLC circuit) for stability analysis according to suppression mechanism of SSR using STATCOM. Based on the equivalent RLC circuit, this paper also provides a method to obtain the stability domain.
