Abstract

The basic operation principle of the single piston hydraulic free-piston engine was introduced and the characteristics were analyzed. The single piston hydraulic free-piston engine model was established depending on the co-simulation tools of AMESim/MATLAB. The dynamic performance of the working process was simulated. The dynamic characteristics of the gases pressure, fluid pressures, flow rates of the check valves and the frequency control valve were analyzed. The piston moving characteristics were investigated. An experiment was performed with one duty cycle. According to the analysis of the simulation and experimental results, the piston frequency is controllable and the piston velocity is dissymmetric. The large flow capacity and very fast response characteristics of the frequency control valve are offered. It provides theory guidance for the development of the single piston hydraulic free-piston engine.
