Simulation on load characteristics of flexible-supported cover system for underwater-launched emulating missile

Abstract

The fluid field near canister outlet for underwater-launched emulating missile and its effect on cover system were modeled and simulated using a 3D symmetric model based on dynamic meshing technique and VOF model without phase transformation. Simulating results of rigid-supported cover system, flexible-supported cover system and hinge-supported cover system were compared with each other and analyzed. The characteristics of bubble pulsation near canister outlet, time-variable load over the cover and its supporting component and dynamics characteristics of cover were achieved through simulations. The results showed that, using the flexible-supported cover system, load characteristics over the cover and its supporting component were reduced during the period of positive pressure process, but were increased during the period of negative pressure process. Hinge-supported cover system produced a good result for load-depressing of cover system. It provided a new kind of reference standard for load-depressing cover system design.
