Abstract

Rural vehicles (RVs) are widely used in China rural areas and are the major sources of NOx and black carbon pollution. In order to obtain the accurate emission factors and emission inventories for RVs, the real driving emissions of several tri-wheel rural vehicles (3-W RV) were measured using portable emission measurement system (PEMS), and an instantaneous emission model was built based on the tri-wheel rural vehicle emission data and used to predict the hot stabilized 3-W RV emissions. For the selected driving trip the estimated emissions agree well with the experimental results. The instantaneous emission model can be applied to estimate 3-W RV emission characteristics for any driving pattern or driving cycle specified by the model user, and therefore the 3-W RV emission factors can be evaluated without the need of real driving emission testing.
