Abstract

The effects of the exterior ballistic, the mass characteristics and the geometry parameters on the equilibrium spinning rate and the critical spinning rate were analyzed quantitatively. Four feasible methods for improving the asymptotic stability of the conning motion, namely reducing the flight speed, bringing forward the mass center to the nose, reducing the span and increasing the chord at the same time in keeping the reference area of the tail fin constant and reducing the mounting angle of the tail fin, were concluded. The way for integrating the stability of the coning motion into the ballistic simulation was also discussed, and the stability of the coning motion during the whole ballistic can be evaluated by judging the stability at the max point of the velocity only. Finally, the limitations of this paper and future research directions were described.
