Abstract

With the advancement of retinal imaging instruments, retinal vascular image analysis is playing an increasingly important role in examining the vasculature structure and its associated properties in clinical practice. In this chapter, we investigate recent technical development in the closely related problems of vessel segmentation, tracing, and arterial and venous vessel classification. Moreover, this chapter summarizes related benchmark datasets, and discusses the metrics used in performance evaluation. Looking forward, a number of promising research directions are highlighted, including 3D, multimodal, mobile retinal image analyses, and the curation of large-scale comprehensive benchmarks.
