Abstract

YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) coated conductors, the second generation (2G) high temperature superconducting (HTS) wires, are widely applied in the field of strong electricity, mainly because of the high irreversible field and the intrinsic carrier capability (77 K). As the second generation HTS wires have been developed to be the practical superconducting materials based on epitaxial film growth, the scientists are exploring the basic physical properties and mechanism of YBCO to commercialize it as soon as possible. The urgent problem in the application of the coated conductors is how to prepare the YBCO thick films with high critical current density. After describing experimental observation and mechanism of thick-films, this paper then introduced the latest research progress on YBCO thick film of the main international research institutions.
