Abstract

The intentional introduction of impurities ions into a material is of crucial importance in controlling the optical, electronic and magnetic properties of bulk semiconductor through tailoring the concentration of electros and holes of the host. Due to the intrinsic “self-purification”, “self-quenching” and “self-compensation” effects, controlled stable doping and relevant electronic impurities tailoring in colloidal nanocrystals face huge challenges. In this work, the efforts on solution-based synthesis of doping semiconductor nanocrystals were reviewed, and the applications of rear earth and transition metal ions as luminescence centers and magnetic probes, which doped in semiconductor nanocrystals were presented. Finally, the challenges and outlook in this research field were proposed.
