Abstract

In order to research on the low-temperature performance of lithium-ion battery, the experiments of the charge-discharge characteristics of 35Ah power lithium-ion battery are conducted under the condition of cold temperature. The results indicate the charge-discharge performance is dropped substantially in cold climates. At -40°C, only 22% of the rated capacity can be delivered at 10A. Only 60.23%of the rated capacity can be put into the battery at -10°C, and at 10A. The internal resistance is increased. Therefore, it is necessary to install heating system to the lithium-ion battery packs for the normal operation of electric vehicles under the condition of cold temperature.
