Abstract

A new miss distance measurement method based on impulse radar system with one receiving antenna was presented. The radar system samples the return signal equivalently by using range gates. According to correlation of sampling data between different range gates, the relative time when point scatters pass range gates was obtained. The measurement was expressed as the least square fitting of range and time by the geometrical relation of miss distance parameters. The best estimated result of miss distance parameters was achieved. By modeling the radar system and trajectory in condition of uniform and rectilinear motion, simulation results show that the measurement error is less than 5% of scalar miss distance. Compared with Doppler measurement, the algorithm has higher precision and stability.
