Abstract

To study the infrared radiation suppressant of rocket motor exhaust plume with water injection, the calculation model for infrared radiation transfer of rocket motor and the multiphase flow field of exhaust plume was built. The radiation source item and mass transfer item generated by water vaporization were induced to energy equation, thus the multiphase plume flow field and radiation transfer could be calculated in couples. The vaporization mechanism was researched and the Mixture multiphase method was used to calculate the multiphase flow field. The discrete ordinates method was used to solve the plume flow field of multi-species and the radiation transfer equation. Infrared radiation intensity contours of three principal spectral bands were obtained and the results accorded well with the infrared thermal images. It is concluded that the infrared radiation after the injection pipe decreases obviously because of the water injection.
