Abstract

Speech communication is an important application in vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) . The ID of vehicles plays a role on building speech communication. However, there are no servers like DNS in VANET. Through flooding messages including a node's information periodically, its neighbor nodes can get its ID and IP. However, flooding in a network may result in network paralysis. So some factors of the flooding should be restricted. In order to get the ID of other vehicles effectively, the paper proposes restraining flood algorithm which restricts the value of the life time and flooding time interval of control messages. The result of NS2 simulation shows restraining flood algorithm can reduce effect of flooding observably.
