Abstract

The dynamic tension experiments for a typical bulk metallic glass (BMG), Zr 41.2Ti 13.8Cu 12.5 Ni 10Be 22.5 (Vit1), were conducted to research the complex dynamic properties of BMGs. It is found that the dynamic tension fracture strength of Vit1 BMG reduces with increase of strain rate and its temperature rise effect is obvious in the experiments. It is suggested that the rheological mechanism of Vit1 BMG in dynamic tension process is adiabatic softening, and the fracture process is the interaction of multiple shear bands, and the main factor leading to above results is the temperature rise in experiment.
