N2 - In this paper, RCS reduction as well as gain enhancement for a slot antenna array is presented. The proposed antenna is a 2×2 slot array with a checkerboard surface located on the top of the antenna aperture. The checkerboard surface, combining an EBG structure and a metallic grounded slab, is adopted to realize a wideband RCS reduction. The experimental result reveals that the proposed antenna array possesses in-band and out-of-band RCS reduction from 5 GHz to more than 12 GHz for both co-And cross polarizations. Besides, the gain enhancement is about 2.1 dB compared with the original slot antenna array.
