Abstract

A new configuration aimed at reducing radar cross section (RCS) and improving radiation properties of circularly polarized (CP) patch antenna is proposed. The CP patch antenna is surrounded by two different orientations of artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) cells, which are of nearly 180° difference in reflection phase. Based on phase cancellation, the RCS of the antenna can be reduced. By introducing two other patch elements of the same shape with the central CP patch, the AR bandwidth can also be improved. Simulation results show that compared with reference antenna, the proposed antenna obtains a 10dB RCS reduction bandwidth for both x and y polarizations and gets a broader bandwidth of 3dB AR, which is from 9.96 GHz to 10.43 GHz (4.6%).
