Abstract

The quadrupole and octupole polarizabilities for the ground states of lithiumlike systems from Z=3 to 20 were calculated using full-core plus correlation (FCPC) method. The nonrelativistic polarizabilities were obtained using Dalgarno-Lewis variation-perturbation method. The typical patterns of convergence of the quadrupole and octupole polarizabilities were analyzed for the neutral lithium atom. It was shown that the leading contribution to polarizabilities comes from the core+nl component.
