Abstract

To improve the reliability of three-phase voltage source inverters (VSI) used in aircraft steering gear systems, a diagnosis technique is proposed for intermittent single/double semiconductor switch open circuit faults (ISOCF/IDOCF) of VSIs. Existing methods struggle to handle intermittent failures of multiple semiconductor switches in aircraft steering gear systems, due to the high mobility and extreme load environments. In order to deal with this issue, based on fuzzy logic principle (FLP), a modified diagnostic method is proposed for three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) supplied by VSI. The fault diagnosis variables, which are used to diagnose ISOCF and IDSOCF, are obtained by FLP from the mean values of the Park-Current-Vector (PCV). The experimental results have confirmed that the proposed method can diagnose the ISOCF and IDOCF accurately. Furthermore, the location of the faulty semiconductor switches can be obtained by this method, which is meaningful to enhance the system reliability.
