Preparation, morphology and properties of acyl azide-functionalized carbon nanotubes

Abstract

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) functionalized with acyl azide groups were prepared via chemical modification of carboxyl groups introduced on the carbon nanotube surface. The acyl azides MWNTs have potential application in chemistry functionalization of MWNTs and energetic materials. The functionalizations of the MWNTs were characterized in detail using scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy and thermogravimetry (TG). The results confirm the carboxylic acid groups converted to the desired acid azide functionalization of MWNTs.
