Abstract

Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to accomplish the experiment of W9Mo3Cr4V HHS tap tool life. The predict model among the tap life and three different factors such as tapping condition, structure and heat treatment process were established. The parameters chosen were cutting speed, the rounded cutting edge radius and temperature of cryogenic treatment. The predict model was expressed as a formula with the least squares estimation. The validity of the model was verified with ANOVA. The data and response surface showed that the sequence of linear effect are temperature of cryogenic treatment, the rounded cutting edge radius and tapping speed; the sequence of temperature of cryogenic treatment and the rounded cutting edge radius are changed in the square effect; the most obviously cross effect takes place between the rounded cutting edge radius and tapping speed, the next is the effect of the temperature of cryogenic treatment and tapping speed and the last is the effect between the rounded cutting edge radius and the temperature of cryogenic treatment.
