Abstract
The noise, gain saturation and pump power conversation efficiency of bidirectionally pumped Raman fiber amplifier (RFA) were investigated. The results show that the noise feature of bidirectionally pumped RFA is intermediate between one of the forward and backward pumped RFA, but it is mainly determined by the noise feature of forward pumped RFA. The saturation power of bidirectionally pumped RFA is related to the ratio of gain provided by forward and backward pumping. The pump power conversion efficiency is related to signal power and the ratio of gain provided by forward and backward pumping. The pumps deployment of case 3 studied here can compensate nearly the loss of 100 km link, which includes the loss of inactive components, and the lowest optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) is 30.21 dB.
