Abstract
The most complete measures of image quality for an optical system were its point spread function (PSF) and its optical transfer function (OTF). Three main factors affecting the optical system MTF were RMS wavefront error, central obstruction diameter ratio, and RMS image motion. They determined how much the image quality was degraded below that of a perfect lens. It is shown that how these parameters can be used in computing the MTF and Strehl ratio by relating them to Marèchal's criterion.
