Abstract

With the usage of ad hoc networks in formation UAV flight and other high mobility scenarios, it's essential for current routing protocols to adapt this high node velocity. In high mobility ad hoc networks, glitch of topology instability metric may cause unnecessary protocol overhead. In this paper, a scheme using the exponentially weight moving average (EWMA) of topology instability metric (TIM) to adapt the topology update intervals dynamically in proactive routing protocols is proposed. Simulation results show that, EWMA of TIM exhibits better glitch suppression than the instantaneous value of TIM and decreases the unnecessary protocol overhead effectively in relative stable scenarios.
