Abstract

To investigate the charge response of the projectile during artillery launch, the approach to node tie-breaking was used to simulate charge damage of PBX9501 explosives to the projectile at different velocities and the Visco-SCRAM model was used to calculate the ignition of charge. The critical launch velocities of projectile for damage and ignition were obtained, respectively. The results indicate that the approach to node tie-breaking is available for simulating damage to the projectile during artillery launch. The models of Visco-SCRAM and frictional ignition between cracks can be used to well calculate charge ignition.
