Abstract
An M: N path protection mechanism of MPLS networks is proposed. The method eliminates the packets loss when a failure occurred in a primary LSP. The algorithm of recovery time is analysed, and simulated in a given network topology. The results illustrate that the scheme supports QoS well, and the data in the failed LSP would be rerouted in the backup LSP. According to the simulation results, the whole recovery time and the buffer size in each LSR are acceptable when the bandwidth is broad enough.
