Abstract
Based on the 8PSK modulation with the ASK label, a novel orthogonal optical label switching technology with high spectra efficiency and high switching speed was proposed. To our knowledge, it was the first time to realize the 100 Gbit/s orthogonal optical label signal transmission over 80 km in distance. The performances of optical label and payload were analyzed by taking into account the influence of optical SNR, narrow-band filtering and nonlinear effect in optical channels. The balanced coherent detection and multi-symbol phase estimation (MSPE) technologies were used to receive the 8PSK payload signal. Compared with the traditional receiver, the optical SNR tolerance of the 8PSK payload was increased by about 3 dB. Through the transmission distance of 80 km, the optical SNR for the ASK label at BER=10-9 was 22.8 dB, and the corresponding optical SNR for the 8PSK was 20.3 dB.
