Multi-thresholds image segmentation method based on particle swarm optimization

Abstract

On the basis of introduction of the elementary principles and features of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, a new multi-thresholds segmentation method based on PSO is proposed. To get optimal thresholds, the algorithm given utilizes the reciprocal of image entropy as it's optimization object function and a new position updating rules. The experimental results show that the new algorithm is better than the traditional PSO with both a better stability and a higher speed.
