Abstract

In the wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM), the gap discharge status is the important basis for servo control and pulse power adaptive control. The present widely used method of fixed threshold is difficult to monitor non-rectangular gap voltage waveform. In this paper, the floating threshold monitoring technology is used, through detecting the gap current and the monitoring voltage threshold proportionally varying with the gap peak current, which can online real-timely discriminate the three kinds of discharge status. In the experiment, it is proved that the monitoring technology improves detection precision and output calculation precision.
