Abstract

ICEPAC( Ionospheric Communication Enhanced Profile Analysis and Circuit Prediction Program) based mainly on measurements of HF field-strength and system loss is applied in this paper. Some aspects of propagation in HF band are analyzed. A comparative study of the commonly used HF propagation models is presented. The ground-wave propagation is deeply investigated. Finally, we use the statistical model-based tool ICEPAC to simulate the communication states of HF propagation over China sea-surface. The simulation results show that HF prediction model built with correct settings outputs the approximate communication situations of China sea-surface in HF band. It helps to predict the communication status accurately and has important realistic significance.
