Abstract

High-altitude electromagnetic pulses (HEMP) pose a great threat to motor-driven special vehicles, which can cause vehicles to lose maneuverability. In this paper, based on the field-line coupling principle, the vehicle cabin and motor drive system cable models are established using CST software. The induced currents and voltages on various cables of the motor drive system and the electromagnetic responses in the cabin and on the cabin surface under HEMP irradiation are obtained by simulation. The results show that unshielded cables are coupled to high voltage and current; the installation position of the resolver at the motor shaft end and the low-voltage port of the motor controller induce a strong electric field; the intensity of the electric field coupled to the vicinity of components with metal shells is relatively large and the surface current density coupled to the area with a smaller radius of curvature and the edge of the body structure is high. Therefore, these positions need to be designed for electromagnetic protection.
