Abstract
The conception of virtual manufacturing (VM) and virtual machine tool were presented. According to the principle of modular design, the abstract representation of the virtual machine tool system was analyzed from the viewpoint of VM. The interrelations between constraints of virtual machine tool design were defined. The structural model for the virtual machine tool was built. Some topics to deal with virtual machine tool were proposed.
