Abstract

To examine the design of new high effective reactive fragmentation warhead, a method for evaluating damage of reactive fragmentation warhead was proposed and the damage evaluation model was established based on the damage mechanism and criteria of reactive fragment. The damage radius of reactive fragmentation warhead was compared with that of inert fragmentation warhead having the same caliber as the reactive one. The results demonstrate that the damage radius of reactive fragmentation warhead is 2.8 times greater than that of inert steel fragmentation warhead. Further, the influence of warhead characteristics, such as material density, mass and kinetic energy of fragment, on damage radius is also achieved and analyzed.
