Abstract
In an electronic control optical engine with common rail, investigation on the ethanol-diesel blended fuels were implemented by high-speed direct photography and flame images were acquired. Based on the two-color method, KL factor which indicated the integrated soot concentration in the cylinder was obtained from the flame image to analyze the effect of the blended fuels on the combustion and soot formation in the cylinder. The results show that with more ethanol blended in the fuel, the ignition delay increases and combustion duration decreases. The luminosity and distribution of the flame are reduced also. The maximum KL factor is also reduced as well as rich soot concentration distribution area, and the process of soot oxidation is speeded.
