Abstract

In this paper, a planar Ku-band Luneburg lens is studied for modulating electromagnetic (EM) wave properties. In particular, a novel resonant metamaterial unit is proposed and characterized, which can be formatted into a two-dimensional (2D) lens antenna. The simulated results show that the proposed lens can provide good EM-wave convergence from 12 to 18 GHz. Potential applications include antenna beam steering and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation.
