Abstract

In order to analyze the influence of fluid flushing on electrode wear, applying hydrodynamics to Electrical Discharge Machining, hydrodynamics finite element model of EDM multiple spline was developed using Fluent with the turbulence model k-e, and velocity vector field, velocity fields, pressure distribution around electrode were analyzed. The results suggest that: flushing right sides of electrode continually come into being lower pressure on the left of electrode; current velocity is low relatively around electrode; within the range of 150° face flushing, pressure large than others part; the upper and below spline have the function of distributaries, brought the current velocity on upper spline and below spline more higher than others part, besides, lead to electrode wear more easy.
