Abstract

This paper investigates influences of Hall sensor magnetism on the torque performance of a slotless permanent magnet (PM) brushless dc (BLDC) motor through two-dimensional finite-element method (2-D FEM). The model and specification of the slotless PM BLDC motor equipped with the Hall sensor are illustrated. Then, the influences of magnetic Hall sensors on the magnetic field distribution, cogging torque and electromagnetic load torque performance of the slotless PM BLDC motor are presented. The results show that the magnetism of Hall sensor in the stator have great influence on the torque performance. Two prototypes of slotless BLDC motor with magnetic Hall sensors and weak-magnetic Hall sensors are manufactured and tested to validate the theoretical and FEM results.
