Abstract

Formation flying in the vicinity of the libration points is an important concept demanding reliable and accurate technique for the control of the spacecraft. This paper is a contribution to this technique considering an impulsive control approach. Tangent targeting method (TTM), essentially a two-level differential corrector, is formulated to maximize the time spent within error corridor between successive maneuvers, and it can be further developed to handle uncertainty introduced by thrust implementation error. The computations have been carried out about the Sun-Earth L2 Halo orbit, using the circular restricted three-body problem (CR3BP) model as the underlying dynamical model. Random errors have been added to the nominal maneuvers to simulate small thrust errors and to test the TTM-based formation keeping strategy.
