Abstract

In traditional FBS framework, the innovative design thinking of cooperative design is given, but there is a lack of standardized description of design elements (function, behavior, and structure). This paper proposes an expression model combining Living systems theory (LST) and FBS framework. This method expresses design elements of the FBS model which are function, behavior, and structure based on LST. A logical and standardized functional expression method is presented by combined with functional vocabularies and the 20 key subsystems in LST. The structural behavior sets are given by quoting the process parameters of LST and the structural expression consistent with the functional expression clearly define the design output. The LST-FBS model shows a standardized expression and mapping method between function, behavior, and structure, which facilitates computerization of conceptual design. Finally, we demonstrate the LST-FBS model by applying it to the variant design of a diesel engine design.
