Abstract

Improved intake port and water jacket models for BFM1015 diesel engine cylinder head were created using CAD software, and intake flow characteristic experiments and water jacket flow field analyses were carried out. Rapid prototyping techniques were adopted in new cylinder head model fabrication. The new cylinder head was tested on a single cylinder engine test bench and compared with the original cylinder head. Results show that the single cylinder diesel engine equipped with new cylinder head has lower brake specific fuel consumption than with original at high speed, the max. reduction is up to 7 g/(kW·h). The temperature of its fire side surface drops significantly at the same load. The most obvious temperature decrease appears at the exhaust bridge zone, being up to 61.8 K. Heat transfer capacity of the new cylinder head increases by about 50% than the original one.
