Abstract

The hardness and microstructure characteristics of adiabatic shear bands in Mn-B system air-cooling bainitic steel exploded cylinder fragment after heat treatment were studied applying Vickers sclerometer, OM and SEM. The results showed that the hardness of the adiabatic shear bands decreased because the energy stored in the adiabatic shear bands were released after heat treatment and the hardness of the adiabatic shear bands went to a minimum after 800°C heat treatment. The bright characteristics of the adiabatic shear bands became dark after 300°C heat treatment and the bright characteristics of the adiabatic shear bands completely disappeared after 800°C heat treatment and blended with the body.
